Collaborate for Success

Effective collaboration among all stakeholders in a coating project is essential for the successful execution of that project. A collaborative approach involves active participation and open communication between the project owner, the coating applicator, the specifier or consultant, and the coating manufacturer. Each party brings unique expertise, insights, and requirements that need to be carefully coordinated and integrated into the project plan.

Owner

  • Define Performance Requirements
  • Define Budget Parameters
  • Timeline Expectations

Specifier

  • Specify Appropriate System
  • Specify Application Methods
  • Specify Quality Control

Applicator

  • Prepare Surfaces to be coated
  • Properly Apply Coating System

Acrymax

  • Supply coatings to meet specifications
  • Provide Technical Support
  • Provide Inspection Services

Teaming refers to the process of building and maintaining effective collaboration and communications between individuals or groups to achieve a common goal or objective. Effective teaming requires building trust, respect, and strong working relationships between team members. It means establishing clear roles and responsibilities, agreeing on common goals and success criteria, and committing to support one another. High-performing teams hold each other accountable.

Working together as a team includes regular meetings, site visits, progress reports, and open lines of communication to ensure potential issues are proactively identified and resolved. This collaborative mindset, with all parties working together towards a shared goal, creates a synergy that delivers superior results. A cohesive partnership between all project participants lays the foundation for a successful, high-quality coating project.

The building owner must play a crucial role in defining the scope and direction of the project by clearly communicating their expectations and constraints to the design and construction team. The owner must articulate their performance requirements, specifying the desired functionality, efficiency, and sustainability targets for the building. Budget parameters are another key aspect the owner must define, setting realistic financial boundaries within which the project must be delivered. Finally, the owner needs to establish timeline expectations. By thoroughly defining and documenting these owner requirements upfront, the building owner sets a clear foundation for the project team to work from, enabling them to align their efforts and deliver a successful outcome that meets or exceeds the owner’s goals.

The specifier’s role in ensuring the success and longevity of a coating project is to develop a comprehensive coating specification document. This specification serves as the roadmap for the project, outlining in precise detail the specific coating products, surface preparation requirements, application methods, environmental controls, and quality assurance procedures that must be followed. When specifying a coating project, key factors must be evaluated, including the substrate type and condition, the intended service environment, expected durability requirements, any project-specific challenges or constraints, and all applicable regulations and codes. By providing a clear and detailed specification, the specifier enables the other members of the team to execute the job correctly from start to finish, ensuring the coating system will provide maximum protection, performance and service life for the structure being coated.

A qualified coating applicator must follow the coating specification while leveraging  their field experience, practical knowledge, and craftsmanship to ensure a successful coating application. They are responsible for preparing surfaces to the required specifications and ensuring a clean and suitable substrate that will allow the coating to adhere properly and perform as intended. The applicator must have an eye for detail and take care in following the application procedures for the specified coating system. This includes properly mixing  the coating materials, applying the correct film thickness, allowing appropriate drying and curing times between coats, ensuring weather conditions are suitable for application of coatings, and inspecting their work to verify it meets all quality standards. The ideal applicator takes great pride in their trade and possesses the patience and skill to overcome challenging application conditions or coating requirements.

Acrymax’s primary responsibility is to provide coatings that fulfill the needs of the particular project and meet or exceed the coating system specifications. However, the best coatings in world will not perform as expected if they are not properly applied. Achieving an optimal finish requires carefully following the manufacturer’s instructions regarding surface preparation, environmental conditions, mixing ratios, film thickness, drying times between coats, and other key variables. Acrymax is committed to what we call “Beyond the Bucket” service . Drawing on our 74 years of industry experience, we work diligently with stakeholders and offer advice and inspections to ensure the proper coatings are used, surfaces are properly prepared, the specified dry film thickness is achieved, and all coating application specifications are followed precisely. The extra time and care taken during the application process pays dividends in terms of maximizing the coating’s protective qualities, aesthetic appeal, and longevity in the field.

In conclusion, for a coating project to succeed, it is critical that all involved parties commit to working collaboratively as a team to achieve the desired outcome. Acrymax is dedicated to this approach. Our partners are committed as well.
